Went to Sandhamn for the day on saturday. It´s a beautiful island in the outer archipelago. Almost like a giant dune, but only almost because there are lots of cliffs too. Sandhman harbours some spectacular views over the ocean and surrounding islands. Breathtaking.

I came home with lots of images and the only one I really felt stood out was the one above. It´s a dreamy forest. A forest to get lost in with perfect vision. A mythic place.

Entering the world of Sonic youth – Sensational fix was very inspirational! It truly was like they have a world of their own where everything blended together in perfect Sonic Youth harmony.

The shot above was an “accident” that improved in Lightroom because of both directions blending together. Even though it´s not crystal clear focus wise it´s still art as we see it ;-)

Diamanda Galás

If I were to spend time explaining to imbeciles
why my music isn’t blasphemous, I wouldn’t
have time to make more blasphemous music.

Last nights show with Diamanda Galás at Södra Teatern was fantastic. It amazes me to no end that her voice is still that powerful after a, by now pretty long career. So given that she must be _29_ now, that´s quite something. On another note, I´ve learned that a womans best age are the ten years between 29 and 30.

The concert had a rather big range. Ranging from Ter Vogormia (Lord have mercy) – From the Armenian liturgy to 25 minutes to go by Shel Silverstein (the one Jonny Cash would sing) which came out in a jazz-blues hybrid with lots of staccato.

Madame Galás was given standing ovations by a pretty diverse crowd and she seemed genuinely touched by that.

She´s famous for being angry, political and having a voice that ranges over 3 octaves but I also felt like she´s a person with a great sense of humor.

Seeing a performance like that is is powerful. You get all wound up and somehow very tired too. There´s so much energy flooding.

I will see her the next chance I´ll get. Never got around to it before even though I´ve played her albums for over 20 years (not constantly) and enjoyed her screams in Dracula and Natural Born Killers.

Ladies in waiting

I finished Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts recently and although I´m not sure if I really liked the book it made me realize that I think about India almost everyday. I miss it. Maybe I will be able to go back in January next year but I´m not sure.

About Shantaram, it was a good story and his descriptions of India are so vivid you can smell it or even taste it but to me, it was all written in a spellbound junkies haze. When I read Burroughs back in the day it was kind of fun with that romaticized visions of the cool junkie but today it just sadened me. It´s worth reading. Suppose it´s just me.

R.I.P. Mitch Mitchell

It all started when I was six years old. We had this sweet nanny, Kerstin, who would be with me and my younger brother when mom started working. She was sweet, a little shy and had the class of the world (at lest to my six year old experience). After a little while she started bringing music over to our house. With a whirlwind the record player hosted stacks of vinyl. There was Johnny Winter, Led Zeppelin, Budgie, David Bowie and *drum roll* The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

The world changed and has forever been changed from that day on. I would take empty plastic containers and build my own drums. The neighbours kid and I formed a band, tormenting parents and whoever who happened to pass by with loud shrieks and constant banging on assorted cans.

When I turned eleven my parents gave up and brought me to Pelle, a drummer with a band called Dice among other things. He was extremely cool and very demanding. I got my own Pearl jazz kit and I spent hours practicing (god bless my parents).

Years later and different bands when it started becoming difficult keeping a set because I was living in apartments the drumming started to fade but the passion for music never stopped. In fact it has increased over the years.

Reading about mr Mitch Mitchells passing away today brought on a lot of sweet memories. I´m a bit nostalgic and very grateful for Kerstin who brought music to the house and these amazing drummers that made me start drumming myself.

Who knows, I might get a kit again sometime soon so if you here a racket in your area it´s just me jamming away to some old albums with The Jimi Hendrix Experience and mr Mitch Mitchell.

I have finally gotten everything together and uploaded a gallery, of course now I want to make a new website all over again but this will do for now. It´s also a bit difficult to decide if I should have two sites, one in English and one in Swedish or if I can mix like I do now. We´ll see and things will progress over time.

Helping a good friend setting up a blog. She´s a journalist and the one I went to India and France with. She writes in swedish but you can check her out here.

And now I´ll get my stuff together and leave work for the weekend.
